Regional geological setting of DUKFTON (modified from Myers and Hocking, 1998) the Tertiary land surface occupy broad, poorly defined drainage systems that feed into the Lake Darlot - Lake Carey (on LAVERTON) system to the south. The Western Gneiss Complex (WGC) in the Scandinavian Caledonides represents continental lithosphere that underwent transient subduction during the Scandian collision. Preservation of eclogite facies mineral parageneses in the predominant granitoid gneisses is rare due to amphibolite-facies overprinting and partial melting. Medium- to coarse-grained and locally porphyritic granitoid gneiss layers in the TG are meters to hundreds of meters thick. They contain numerous sheets of texturally and compositionally homogeneous fine- to coarse-grained amphibolite that extend hundreds of meters along strike and are as much as 4 m thick.

The granitoid rocks are mainly potassic granite and were derived principally from reworked older (3.1–2.8 Ga) gneiss. Magnetic contrast between the granitoid rocks and gneiss provides a means to map these gross rock units in covered areas. Structural, petrological and textural evidence indicates that the dynamothermal contact originally evolved as a subhorizontal ductile shear zone during juxtaposition of the greenstone pile with granitoid gneiss and that its formation preceded regional folding, greenschist facies overprinting and granitoid intrusion which occurred at about 2700 Ma. Granite Gneiss. Two ages were determined in the Vumba granitoids, namely, the 3385±255 Ma and the 2527±632 Ma (Manuel, 1992) north and south of the Manica greenstone belt respectively. The biotite bearing granitoid gneisses are of Proterozoic age and are grouped into the Messica Granite Gneiss.

Generally light in color, the rock also often contains minor amounts of hornblende, mica, or other accessory minerals. Granitoid gneiss is a variety of metamorphic gneiss that appears to have bands of black and white minerals such as feldspar and mica. These bands form from the heating and squeezing of the rock although, granitoid gneiss may look very similar to the original granite rock. Granitoid gneiss is medium- to coarse-grained and occurs around the world. Granitoid Gneiss.

Granitoid Gneiss Granite is a type of visibly crystalline igneous rock primarily composed of quartz and feldspars that has been utilized as a building material since antiquity. Generally light in color, the rock also often contains minor amounts of hornblende, mica, or other accessory minerals.

Metagabbro dikes of probable Early Proterozoic age as much as 15 m thick cut the Archean rocks. Rubidium-strontium whole-rock data indicate a Late Archean age [1] Granitoid magmatic sheets emplaced syntectonically during growth of the Orlica-Śnieżnik mantled gneiss dome (Central Sudetes, European Variscan belt) were examined by means of structural geology, quartz, and anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) fabric studies.
